Basics

Premise: God is good.

Historical Fact: Jesus rose from the dead.

Therefore:

The Bible is the Word of God.
God created man for His pleasure.
Man is now fallen and sinful.
Jesus is the propitiation (satisfactory substitute) for all man's sins.
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone.
A saved man is secure and may be assured of Heaven.
God's plan is that saved people tell lost people how to be saved.
God will reward the saved.
God will judge the lost.
God knows best how I can be satisfied in this lifetime.

HOW DO I BEGIN?

Like the man posed with the question, "How do you eat an elephant?" I will begin, "One little bite at a time."

Seven Simple Truths
from God's Holy Word, the Bible

1. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

We are all in the same boat. The very best person you know, the very best person you ever heard of, is not as perfect as God. Some people are good, compared to other people. But no one is as perfect as God.

2. "For the wages of sin is death . . ." (Romans 6:23)

SIN separates. Sin separates each one of us from those against whom we sin. Whatever the sin, it puts a barrier in between people, and between people and God.

DEATH is the ultimate separation.

3. "And there shall in no wise enter into it (heaven) anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie, but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." (Revelation 21:27)

God's Heaven is going to be a perfect place, and no one who is less than perfect will go there. God will not allow His eternal ome to rbe ruined by sin.

4. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us . . ." (Titus 3:5)

No one can earn or deserve aplace in God's perfect Heaven. Bu God's mercy we may escape the punishment for sin which we deserve.

5. "Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day . . ." (I Corinthians 15:3,4)

"For He hath made Him (Jesus) , who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him." II Corinthians 5:21)

God gave His Son to die in my place, to bear the punishment for my sin. When I believe in Him, Jesus' own perfect righteousness is put to my account with God.

6. "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9)

We can only BELIEVE (have "faith") in the person who provided salvation for us by what He did on the cross.

7. "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life . . ." (I John 5:13)

God's promise to this group of people, who have believed on the name of the Son of God, is assurance that they have eternal life.

We may not always feel like God's people; we may not always act like God's people -- but God says we may K - N - O - W that we H - A - V - E eternal life.

Doesn't it make sense to believe the word of the one who died to pay the penalty for sin, and rose again, to prove that the work he had done was complete?

"For God so loved the world _______________ (put your name here), that he gave his only begotten Son (Jesus) that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16)

History confirms the facts - Jesus died and rose again.

When I believe the facts - Jesus died for me -

Then God says I have everlasting life. That's salvation.
